Adenoviral keratoconjunctivitis is a significant form of viral conjunctivitis, primarily presenting as acute follicular conjunctivitis often accompanied by corneal involvement. This condition is highly contagious and may occur sporadically or as part of an epidemic. Adenoviruses are DNA viruses with 37 identified serotypes. Serotypes 2, 3, 4, 7, 8, 9, 14, 16, 19, 29, 31, and 37 have been isolated from ocular infection sites. Adenoviral keratoconjunctivitis typically manifests in two major forms: epidemic keratoconjunctivitis and pharyngoconjunctival fever.
