Optic disc melanocytoma is characterized by abnormal proliferation of melanocytes in the optic disc region, appearing as a densely pigmented, nevus-like mass within the optic disc. This condition is more commonly observed in middle-aged individuals and is often asymptomatic, with many cases being discovered incidentally during routine examinations. It typically has no significant impact on visual function, and clinical management primarily involves regular follow-up observation.

Figure 1 Fundus photograph of the right eye with optic disc melanocytoma
An oval-shaped black mass is visible on the optic disc, measuring approximately three-fourths of a disc diameter (DD) in size. The margins are well-defined, and the mass protrudes from the surface of the optic disc.
