Xanthelasma of the eyelid is commonly observed in elderly individuals. It may occur in patients with hereditary hyperlipidemia, diabetes, or other forms of secondary hyperlipidemia, although the majority of patients display normal lipid levels. The lesion is typically located on the upper eyelid near the inner canthus, though it may sometimes appear on the lower eyelid as well. It is often bilateral, presenting as a soft, flat, yellowish plaque that is slightly elevated, with well-demarcated borders separating it from the surrounding normal skin.
Treatment
Surgical excision may be performed for patients who have cosmetic concerns.
